Eureka! on the Hustings

  • Thursday 10 November 2022
  • Buninyong Town Hall
  • Doors open at 7:00pm

The new State electorate of Eureka covers 3,915 square kilometres running from Bacchus Marsh through Ballan to Buninyong and the eastern parts of Ballarat, also extending to the south taking-in parts of Golden Plains Shire.

Relatively close neighbours in the townships of Buninyong and Ballan, now both in the Eureka electorate, are getting together to quiz all their candidates on Thursday 10 November. Attendance at the forum is free of charge, with doors at the Buninyong Town Hall open to the public from 7:00pm.

ABC Radio 107.9 presenter Steve Martin will be moderating the forum and will be encouraging maximum participation from the audience to put their questions and issues to the candidates.

Candidates representing political parties are Michaela Settle (Labor), Paul Tatchell (Liberal), Sam McColl (Greens) and Wendy Morrison (Animal Justice), along with independents Nicola Reid and Michael Ray.

Traffic and heavy truck concerns are issues impacting both Buninyong and Ballan communities with serious consequences around community safety, local accessibility and economic growth. The parlous state of many vital regional roads, now intensified by the effect of record rains, will be another hot topic. Local voices will be seeking answers from the candidates on these and many other issues, including public transport services and schedules for students, workers, the elderly and local commuters generally.

In the old tradition of Town Hall rallies some rousing music presented by the Little Brass Band will kick-off proceedings and a supper will be provided at the conclusion of the forum for locals to mingle, discuss and debate topics of mutual concern.

Eureka! on the Hustings is a cooperative presentation of Buninyong & District Community Association and Ballan & District Chamber of Commerce.
